The Camillian Social Center in Rayong (CSC) fully supports that people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) become organized to morally sustain each other and to protect their rights as Thai citizens. We believe that PLWHA deserve to be treated with human dignity. The CSC initiated and funded the Southeast Region Network of PLWHA and at the beginning provided an office on the CSC grounds. The Network office now operates autonomously from a storefront location in Map Ta Phut, which is about 6 km from the Center. Though the Network works independently it is still under the guidance and umbrella of the main Camillian Social Center.
The Southeast Region Network of PLWHA is managed and controlled by PLWHA with an assembly of all the members as the supreme body and a committee as its executive arm. The network now has 54 local associations and a total membership of 5,247 members. The network coordinators and local leaders set up the local associations.
The HIV/AIDS Southeast Region Network helps PLWHA to be accepted into the Access To Care program and works to improve the standard of care offered by the government hospitals. Through the government program, PLWHA have access to anti-retroviral (ARV) drugs. The Network personnel provide counseling, visit the homes of PLWHA and continue advocating for the rights and better treatment of PLWHA within the communities and governmental institutions.
